UNIX Guides

UNIX is an operating system used by the workstations and multi-user computers within the SCS, for example, kenny, buffy, xena, and the eels and ducks.

On X terminals and the workstations, X-windows provide an interface between the user and UNIX, which enables a user to command the computer to perform certain operations by, for example, selecting items from a menu.

However, knowledge of UNIX is required for operations which aren't covered by menu items, or for when there is no X windows system, for example, in a Telnet session.
